Tidbits
You were wondering how to pronounce my name,
weren't you?
Eva (long "A" as in Eva Peron)
Gil (Heal)
My dad is from Spain and so is my name!
Words, Words, Words

La Biblioteca Ildefonso Manuel Gil.
Zaragoza, Spain.
Named for my grandfather, a poet.
My affinity for theater really began with a love affair with words. I went to many poetry readings, as a kid (my parents who are both professors would take me) and I think the fascination began there. Also, my grandfather was a well-known poet in Spain and so perhaps the love of language is in the blood. I fell in love with words at a young age and the world that can be created via language, which of course lead to theater.
Some of my favorite poets are:
Ildefonso Manuel Gil (my grandfather), Sandra Cisneros, e.e.cummings, Alice Walker, Sharon Olds, Mary Oliver, Jane Kenyon, Laure-Ann Bosselaar, Pablo Neruda, Marge Piercy, Maya Angelou.

Producing

Fittingly inscribed on the bench outside of the Brooks Theater
I have produced 6 full-productions (and profitable no less) in NY and Chicago. I am very interested in the promoting of new work and in paying all the artists involved. I think both elements are essential for the survival of theater.
Some of my favorite contemporary playwrights:
Naomi Wallace, Jordan Harrison, Liz Duffy-Adams, David Ives, Chuck Mee, David Lindsay-Abaire, Gina Gionfriddo, Tracy Letts, Sheila Callaghan, Naomi Iizuka, Brooke Berman, Sarah Ruhl, Philip Dawkins, Marisa Wegrzyn,
Adam Bock, Lee Blessing.

Travel

the Brooks Theater
I was fortunate enough to travel a lot with my family growing up, so I was bit by the travel bug early on.
Some of my favorite places:
St. Luke's garden in the West Village, NYC
Los Pinos in Daroca, Spain
The Brooks Theater, Cleveland

Cayuga Lake, Aurora
Aurora, NY looking at the lake
Sevilla, Spain--especially the Alcazar gardens
The garden at the Rodin Museum in Paris
The canal in Millenium Park, Chicago
North Rim of the Grand Canyon
Driving on Highway 1 in California
Dreams

On Case Western Reserve Univ campus
Future Plans:
When I win the lotto, or figure out how to get loads of money, I want to renovate old abandoned theaters in cities and have after-school arts programs and arts groups use the space. What would be ideal would be to have the renovations done by engineering and architecture students in that city so it becomes a project for the entire community.
Along the same vein I would love to own a mixed-use space in NYC that includes a gallery, a theatre space and a wine bar/coffee house with a stage for musicians. There could be plays going on and art being shown in the gallery and then music after shows. Who wants to fund this venture?
